EMBRACING WOMANHOOD THROUGH THE ART OF RANGOLI MAKING

In November 2024, an inspiring awareness session was organized to empower women through the vibrant and culturally rich art of rangoli making. This session aimed to not only embrace the artistic talents of women but also provide them with a unique platform to address and raise awareness about crucial social issues that directly impact their lives. Participants were encouraged to design rangolis that illustrated pressing topics such as gender equality, domestic violence, access to education, and women's health, transforming the traditional art form into a powerful tool for advocacy and dialogue.

The session went beyond just an artistic endeavor; it became a space where women could freely express their thoughts, concerns, and hopes for a more equitable future. By creatively engaging with the themes of social justice, the women used their rangolis tell personal and collective stories of the challenges they face and the resilience they embody. Each intricate design, with its vibrant colors and meaningful patterns, symbolized different aspects of womanhood—from strength and empowerment to struggles for equality and recognition. The colors and patterns were not mere decorations but became symbolic expressions of the journey of women toward freedom, independence, and dignity.

Through this creative process, women were able to not only realise their own skills but also stand in solidarity with one another, creating a sense of community and shared purpose. The rangolis acted as visual statements, high lighting the need for social change, and providing a forum where the conversation about women’s rights and empowerment could be amplified. This initiative bridged tradition with contemporary activism, allowing art to become a voice for advocacy. It underscored how cultural practices could be harnessed to highlight important social issues and inspire action toward creating a more inclusive and supportive society for all women. At the end of the discussions and rangoli making the best ones were awarded with various cash prizes.

The session was a beautiful reminder of how creativity can transcend traditional boundaries, fostering empowerment, solidarity, and social change while embracing the cultural heritage that unites usall. It served as a powerful call for unity and a stronger commitment to building a future where women are free from discrimination and able to live with dignity, equality, and respect.
